More Wounded Electric Youth reviews!

More high praise has been coming in this fall for Adam‘s new record, Wounded Electric Youth:

Short list for best album of the year.. a songwriter and interpreter in a state of grace and constant growth, a name to follow absolutely.”- Roots Highway

“Balanced.. Klein’s songwriting is evocative.. the devil’s in the details they say and this recording has that in spades.”- Beat Surrender

“The bold production, luminous melodies, and engaging anecdotes of summertime (“Driftin’”), unrequited love (“Anna, You Were Supposed to be Mine”), and subsequent longing (“Wayward Son”), along with vibrant imagery in the realm of Ryan Adams, Tim Easton, and Matt the Electrician are among the multitude of positive attributes that make Wounded Electric Youth an absolute pleasure to listen to… A beautiful effort, natural-born storyteller Klein has crafted a cohesive, elaborate, and expertly layered coming-of-age document.”-
Performer Magazine (full review here)

“Singing in a warm, rich voice and backed by near-perfect musicianship, Klein anchors these 12 tracks around an air of familiarity, providing the soundtrack for a day of southern, small-town sampling. Klein echoes his alt-country influences-“Anna (It Was Supposed to be Me)” and “Griffin’s Song” breeze along like Steve Earle deep cuts, “Call My Name” and “Wayward Son” recall recent Son Volt, and the delicate wordplay of “Fairy Tale” brings to mind Josh Ritter.”- Glide Magazine

The album’s also been featured on Freight Train Boogie, called one of the finest albums of the year by Americana UK and Roots Highway, and ranked by Beat Surrenderin its Best Albums of 2010 list.

Here’s their take on Adam’s new album, Wounded Electric Youth:
“Although the roots renaissance has been riding in on some degree of pop experimentations, the results that I’ve heard remain largely purist. While the country and bluegrass crowd continues to dangle their toes into the pool of pop, Klein has calmly walked past them and dived directly into the deep end with all his clothes still on.

‘Tired Afternoon (Out For Love)’ has all the mellow markings of a mid-1970s Neil Young or James Taylor – soft, lush, spacious. Well done Adam! The bouncing melody and female harmonies in ‘To Be A Loner’ shine like a beacon to lure the more purist roots artists deeper into pop waters. Anything that sounds this fun has to be good for you! But purists aren’t so easily lured. Meeting them half way, Klein shows them he is capable of the most haunting traditionals while keep his pop hat on in the 7+ minute epic, ‘Of Pirates & Vagabonds’.”

Nutria’s hip!

We’re happy you can wear (and listen to) your nutria proudly! The boys are all the rage on the fashion scene from Brooklyn to New Orleans. See it for yourself in the New York Times. This pest has a great EP waiting to be in your stockings this season (or spinning with your dreidels).

Justin Evans reviewed..

Congrats to Justin Evans on a fine 4* review of The Owls & The Hounds in UK’s Maverick Magazine! See below:
Americana in some ways but with a genuine country spirit

“Justin Evans is from Athens, Georgia and his first official album is marvelous form start to finish. With several styles penetrating its core, from traditional country to authentic bluegrass with a touch of Americana thrown in for good measure, Justin is one guy whose career you should observe carefully. Cherries and Whiskey has a blues style of picking and as its title suggests this could easily be enjoyed over a dram of whiskey or two. The Heart of San Francisco has a slow groove about it with a minimalist sound. The Heart of New Orleans is just as awesome, possessing a 1920s sound albeit based on a contemporary subject you wouldn’t hear sung about in the days of Jimmie Rodgers. This has a relaxed feel that allows both the instrumentations and lyrics to demonstrate in their own right how good they are. I hope the wait for a second will not be too far away for a talent as fine as this deserves to enjoy a long and successful career making music.”

Justin’s live in Athens for a special show on Monday, November 22nd at one of our favorite (and new) spots, Hendershot’s!

And we got shows this weekend..
